Fifty years after its creation, the business district is renewed : real estate projects and urban projects redraw the landscape of La Defense. The circular boulevard, designed as a detached highway from the original ground, now finds a continuity of its ground features in its accesses, developped pedestrian spaces and its surrounding skyscrapers location organized and identified under a system all the way along the boulevard.
The urban retrofitting proposes a marking out of this continuity by creating vertical functional and technical elements, like the smoke discharge system and elevators. The connections between the boulevard and La Defense high flagstone are announced and underlined by the paving pattern which unfolds like a carpet through the skyscrapers and guides the pedestrians through this unconventional urban space.
